History & Impact

The Cancer Association of Louisiana  (CALA formerly CAGNO) is pleased to announce the rebirth of Tour de Lis Louisiana!

How Tour de Lis Got Started
Tour De Lis was started in 2007 by Carol Asher, her husband Harold and their friends Doug Thornton, Mickey Allweiss and Bill Schwartz to honor Asher’s cousin, Josh Lipschutz, who, at the age of 36, was diagnosed with brain cancer. The event was last held in the summer of 2012 and included a 5K walk and fun-run and a 3-mile-loop bike ride in City Park.
About CALA
Since 1959, Cancer Association of Louisiana (CALA) formerly CAGNO has been a leader in providing direct financial support to cancer patients in Louisiana parishes across the state of Louisiana. In 2022, donors made it possible for CALA to provide 1146 patients and their families with ongoing support during cancer treatment. This includes household living assistance, co-pays and medical supplies, gas cards for transportation assistance to treatment, patient’s prescriptions, and educating the community on cancer prevention.
$1M+ Donated
Tour de Lis La raises funds to help patients and their families cope with the physical and emotional challenges of a cancer diagnosis; and most importantly, to provide assistance to cancer patients in Louisiana through the Cancer Association of Louisiana. In 5 short years, Tour de Lis had raised over one million dollars for local cancer patients
